Well…it's about 3 1/2 hours to departure, and I can't wait. Yea, there is a not-so-favorable forecast tonight, and I thought about calling off the trip, but so many times, I have seen posts on PTC Media and Twitter about the chance of storms and rain, with leaders questioning to stay or go, and I always tell them to “Go for it!”…so, I will do the same.
We are going on our first tent campout as a troop, the last trip, we stayed in a cabin. We have a full weekend planned, with fire safety, lashings, cooking and the general stuff that the scouts need to know when camping. They have been studying and practicing in a controlled environment, but now it’s time to see if they learned anything.
We plan on breaking camp about 10:30 on Sunday, and the scouts will pack up and get ready to head home, but they will be going home with the ASM.
You see, I will be staying…we are camping at one of the council campgrounds, and as my troop leaves, my pack will be arriving, where we will stay at Webelos Resident camp for 3 nights. The scouts will be working on a couple different activity pins, and I will get to start my recruitment with the boys entering the 4th grade this fall.
So as I write this, I am eagerly anticipating the next 6 days of camp…it’s been a year since we visited Webelos camp, and I am looking forward to seeing the scouts that were “Webelos I” last year, and how their skills have grown since last year.
I do plan on using the full complement of devices to log my trip…voice recorder, camera with 8 GB of memory, and my Blackberry.
Stay tuned…
